Who is he? What is he? Where does he come from?

The actual history of the meme known as "Robert Cop" is sketchy at best. At some point some bootleg Robocop action figure was "manufactured" in either Mexico, China, Argentina or Korea and somebody found and bought one at some market somewhere...

Then, someone posted a picture of it in a forum. Which forum? We do not have that information.

Then someone named Brad McGinty decided to move the meme forward by drawing an advertisement and creating his own Robert Cop figures to send out with T-Shirts that he designed.

Did he create the connection to Johnny Five and Ray Liotta? We do not know. What matters now is that, as memes go, Johnny Five's mutant twin, "Optical Prime" and Terminator 2's Robert Patrick's mutant twin has been dubbed "Ray Liotta," and both are now accepted as part of Robert Cop canon.

American bootleggers and artists then flooded the market with even cheesier and crappier Robert Cops and more were discovered... Other Robocop copies were found: Robot Cob, RobotoCop, Sonic Man, Mobil Cop, Electric Robocop, Robopol, Machinery Cop, Mighty Cop and others. For ROBERT COP: THE MOVIE, all are to be considered part of ROBERT COP canon. They are all characters in the expanding Robert Cop Universe. How it all fits together is what this site and this project is all about. Robert Cop is an open source meme. People continue to 'manufacture' crappy Robert Cop toys, and the only reason for anyone to buy them is to own a three-dimensional version of this internet meme.

Robert Cop's true history is blurry and weird and difficult to totally track down, though none of that may matter, as our favorite character is now being expanded and more details are being discovered and filled in...

Robert Cop is a robot cop, he was torn apart by his K-9 dog, when it ate the wrong genetically modified dog food which was manufactured by Ultracorp. Robert was left bleeding to die, but Ultracorp turned him into a cyborg. He has been regretting it ever since. His partner, a Polish-Native American (Muscogee (Creek) Nation) female Detroit Police Officer, is always trying to convince him to want to live so they can continue to fight crime. Robert Cop hates being a cyborg and wants to die. Robert Cop is of course a kind of mutant, he doesn't consider himself human any more, he is always noticing how terrible it is to be a cyborg. He cannot taste his baby food sludge, he cannot smell anything anymore, and he wishes he could go swimming.

The story of Robert Cop is about robots, cyborgs, the Detroit Police Department vs. Ultracorp, and it's about copies, it's about bootlegging, it's about what is artificial, it is about what is fake, and it's about what is 'human.'  Ultracorp is busy trying to replace human police, replace human food, replace animals, replace everything, including thoughts, emotions and ordinary human behavior. Ultracorp is not only a criminal corporation, it is the enemy of mankind. It is the creator of "Sonic Man" and the corporate robot army known as the "Sonic Rangers." It also created "ROBOT C.O.B." a 'political correctness bot' which goes berserk on the streets of Detroit. Ultracorp also manufactured the police robots known as Optical Prime and Cecil2000. Detroit Police Officer Ray Liotta has discovered the secret plot of Ultracorp to replace all police officers with "Sonic Rangers" and part of that plot is to send out the Ultracorp killer-robots and eliminate the Detroit Police one by one... While Ray Liotta is on the run and in hiding, his only hope is to get word to Robert Cop. But he cannot use a cellphone, he cannot use email, he cannot use any electronic means to communicate or he will be tracked...

Ultracop is no longer interested in created cyborgs after the disaster that is Robert Cop. Their new plan is to use the living police officers in a secret nefarious plan I cannot reveal here... (SPOILERS!)

Robert Cop will have to fight Robot C.O.B., Sonic Man, the Sonic Rangers, Mobil-Cop and many other robotic 'cops.'  He will be nearly completely destroyed in his quest. By the end of Robert Cop 1, he will be a pile of mechanical pieces and shredded flesh... in the finale, he will form The ULTRAFORCE to fight Ultracorp... consisting of his friends... there will be much devastation and destruction, violence, gore, absurdity, and insanity.

The expansion of Robert Cop continues... his personal story, the characters and the underlying meaning, purpose and philosophy of Robert Cop. Nobody can COPY Robocop. No one. It can't be done. What we get are disasters. Bad movies. Worse movies. They need to stop trying. No one can copy the human soul. It can't be done. What we get are disasters. Monsters. Worse monsters. They need to stop trying...

What is Robert Cop? At this point it is a mockery of those who attempt to copy Robocop, to re-write Robocop, remake Robocop, re-fashion Robocop, recreate Robocop, and reboot Robocop. It has become symbolic of those failed attempts to re-create and re-fashion classics, to 'upate' them. The original ROBOCOP film as we now now was actually somehow made 'with a soul.' As yet, no one has been able to 're-capture' the magic. So... with that, it is also a mockery of not only the attempted 'remakes' of all classics, but the ultimate classic... the attempt to remake humanity, to reboot humanity, to replace humanity....

Robocop Universe

I have finally come to the conclusion that the only entry in the ROBOCOP franchise that is utterly worthless is the more recent Robocop Remake with Samuel L. Jackson. Sorry, I don't even care who the actor was who played Robocop and I'm not going to look it up.

For years people have absolutely hated Robocop 3, the first live-action television series, Robocop the Animated Series, Robocop: Prime Directives and Robocop Alpha Commando. And in no way do they measure up to the original film, or Robocop 2 (which many fans also hate). However... as cheap, cheesey, stupid, inane, and silly as all the rest were, all of them still contained a fraction of the essence of the original, where as the Remake had none. The Remake was a soulless enterprise of absolute stupidity and isn't even fun enough to make fun of.

As for the rest, I believe the time has come to celebrate the rest of the silly Robocop franchise, because in fact, they are far more worth watching and indulging in than so many crappy franchise continuations it's beyond comprehension. Yes, I said it. Simply for their camp value, their creativity and for the wealth of weirdness they represent. Yes, a Robocop for kids is stupid, but it's so absurd that it takes on a whole new level of crazy entertainment. The original Robocop film was in no way shape or form anything serious, and when you look at the remake, 'serious' is when it all goes wrong. The animated series as well as the television series contain many interesting absurdities that are so awesome that it's hard to believe that people could be so stuck up about them. Yes, when you were a kid they did not measure up to the original movie, but with hindsight, using the Remake as a measuring stick, my god that Remake was bad, and of course these Robocop spin-offs were not 'Robocop' they were some sort of weird mutated bastard child of Robocop. The Remake on the other hand was a dull, empty copy that thought it could be better, it thought it could 'update' and 'improve' on the original film. The television incarnations NEVER aimed to improve or update ROBOCOP. They all knew they weren't allowed to be ROBOCOP so they simply chose weird directions to take it.

They are, in essence, the Robert Cop of Robocop in animation and television presentation form. They are imitations, but they are just as mutated as Robert Cop is. The Remake? Oh, it literally believed it was an 'official' "replacement" for Robocop. How stupid is that?

From the treasure trove that is three, count em, three separate television series' and a mini-series of four movies' worth of insanity, ROBERT COP: THE MOVIE will take much of its inspiration. So many characters to mock, copy, imitate, pay homage to, and reward the audience with if they ever bothered to sit down and watch these shows.

As long as you know full well going in to them that they are not ROBOCOP, not what you love about the original, which is such a classic, it can never be matched, you can, I would argue, gain a great deal of entertainment from them. There are many so-bad-its-good moments, but it requires getting past the fact that you are NOT getting original-Robocop from them.  We know this. Robocop spinoffs are just weird mutations. Crazed incarnations of both imitation and imagination. The Robocop Remake had no imagination at all. There's nothing in you haven't seen somewhere else, it was fucking boring.

Included in these spinoffs is ROBOCOP ULTRA POLICE which as far as I know did not have any animated incarnation. Which is kind of weird because the live-action SERIES had action figures, but the ULTRA POLICE line had no cartoon to go with it. The characters they invented came from neither the original Animated Series, nor the other animated series called ROBOCOP ALPHA COMMANDO (which also had a couple action figures.) In reality, none of these are really related to eachother, but we shall take them all as the alternate ROBOCOP UNIVERSE and mill from them what we can.

To add to this, I will say that I have absolutely no faith in "ROBOCOP RETURNS" a planned film to be directed by Neill Blomkamp. In fact, I suspect they will let him make the movie as he wants, and then a news story will appear. "Neill Blomkamp Replaced By ..." (Some other director) even though 90% of the movie is filmed. This is a habit now in Hollywood, and what they're doing is getting a director to make a movie, and then ditching him and his vision, and "correcting" it the way they want it to be made. They get that director's partial vision and atmosphere, and then they go in and add and replace and 'update' it however they want. I would suggest to all ROBOCOP FANS right now, if this occurs, by my prediction, I call for a complete boycott by every living soul around the globe, because this kind of shit is happening all too often for it to be normal circumstances. They do it on purpose. They continue to do it on purpose because they're 'correcting' it, adding their own 'spin' and whatever 'propaganda' they wish to see on screen. It is a fact. This is what they're doing. If they do this, it's time to call them on what they're doing, because mark my words, they will do it to ROBOCOP. Watch.

Robert Cop Fanzine is Coming to a Mail Box Near You!

Fake Ray Liotta ROBERT COP UNIVERSE Action Figure

Robert Cop: The Movie

What the hell is Robert Cop and what the hell is Robert Cop: The Movie? Robert Cop was a fake Robocop Bootleg toy that became a meme many years ago. Sometimes it resurfaces, and the peculiarity of it contains something of fascination and what I would call an 'insane usefulness.'

Robert Cop: The Movie is a concept, for lack of a better word, which isn't exactly a straight promotional idea to make a movie, though in a way it is, but at the same time, it is a statement. It is not only a parody of Robocop AND Robert Cop, it is a parody of Hollywood itself, as well as a vehicle for telling a strange an unusual story based on the idiotic characters that were 'invented' by the bootleggers. It involves not only Robert Cop, but many of the other named Robocop bootlegs, and composites them into a fictional universe of parody, satire, fun, insanity and what some might write off as 'fan fiction' but is a step beyond it. It is taking 'fan fiction' to a higher level of insanity. It is memetic fan fiction with an aim to produce and entertain even more of it.

Robert Cop represents everything from that which is artificial and absurd, to how the artificial and absurd is entering into every facet of our lives. It is the nostalgia of unusual rip-offs of Robocop from movies, television shows, other action figure franchises, but also a commentary upon how this sort of trend occurs. Through the 'story' of Robert Cop, we will explore all these ideas and more. From Japanese live action future cops to the cheap and lackluster takeoffs of Robocop within the Robocop Franchise itself. It is in total embrace of the insanity that was the Original Robocop, but also the many bizarre things that came in its wake. I hope you take this journey with me, as it will be hopefully fun, entertaining, enlightening, nostalgic, and is open-ended, it could go anywhere...

So is Robert Cop: The Movie fake? Yes and no. Robert Cop: The Movie in its current stage is fake. Ray Liotta has not been hired to make Robert Cop: The Movie. Nor has Laurence Labeouf. However we imagine that they could be. If Robert Cop: The Movie were to become a reality. There are many ways in which Robert Cop: The Movie could become a reality. As have many unsual things become reality in this new and bizarre future we live in, Robert Cop could very well become a movie, but that depends on its strength as a meme, as an idea, and as this form of entertainment we are presenting to you. We hope you engage and enjoy it, for its ultimate motives are positive and crazy, and hopefully something needed in this day and age.
